Campaigns
Bruce Blakeman, the republican candidate for governor in New York, will try to run on issues that affect New Yorkers but the current governor Kathy Hochul, will make it a national election.
Blakeman wants to campaign on support for police, ending cashless bail, ICE enforcement, holding the line on property tax, cut government spending, reduce regulations, transgender sports ban, banning mask by protestors, pro-choice and pro-Israel.
Hochul does not want to discuss or debate these issues and her campaign will be all about Trump who is backing Blakeman. She does not want to discuss policy but rather personality.
Candidates on the national stage will follow this strategy. They will not discuss, reshoring jobs, securing the border, fair tariffs, Europe paying for their own defense, peace in Palestine, deporting illegal criminals or negotiating an end to the Ukraine War. They will campaign against Trump’s personality. Instead of issues they will say he is an autocrat who wants to end democracy along with the old standby racism. The one exception will be the cost of living. Inflation averaged 5.5% during Bidens years and it is now 2.7 and Trump made the mistake of saying he would lower prices and that has not happened. The campaign word is affordability and people will forget when prices went up and only concentrate on what prices are today. Trump may not have caused the high cost but he is president and the buck stops with him. Trump will discuss all the ways he is keeping inflation under control but the issues will not be discussed. The talk will be about Trump not his policies.
