Iran today
The war in Iran has the experts predicting what will happen while others predict what would have happened it the war were not started. The answer to the first question will be forthcoming but the second can only remain speculative. While the focus was on Iran’s pursuit of nuclear weapons, they were quietly building up their supplies of missiles and drones. While shouting death to American they were quietly concentrating on the other oil countries in the Middle East. Just as Saddam invaded Kuwait they were eying not only Kuwait but also UAE, Iraq and the big enchilada Saudi Arabia. With their overpowering military force, they could intimidate and even take over these other countries giving them control over the world oil market. In the past, the US would have been willing to use force to protect the Saudis but since the US has become energy independent that is no longer the case. It would be Europe and China at the mercy of Iran. The war has shown that the real power in Iran is the military and not the civilian government or the Mullahs. This greatly diminishes the nuclear threat since those in power recognize that the use of a nuclear bomb would mean the destruction of the country. The military people are not willing to die to go to heaven as many of the religious leaders were. One US submarine in the Persian Gulf could destroy the entire country in a matter of minutes.
