Church

For many years I have been critical of the federal bureaucracy because I believe that power in the hands of elected officials is dangerous but power in hands of unelected people is more dangerous. My basic philosophy is don't trust the government. Forty years ago Senator Frank Church led an investigation which exposed government corruption and it is time for another house cleaning. The committee published 14 reports where it exposed illegal operations by the CIA, NSA and FBI. For the most part it showed how government agencies were spying on Americans and using that information to cement their power. The result was the formation of the Federal Intelligence Surveillance Court (FISA) court which was supposed to make it more difficult for the government to spy on people. Since there was only one side presented to the court they provided strict adherence to all aspects of the law. The government must certify that the information in the application is accurate and must disclose any information that could raise doubt about the application's findings. The result is that FISA didn't work with 33,942 warrants issued and 12 denied. The other result is that Church became an outsider and lost the next election. Like Senator Schumer said, “Let me tell you, you take on the intelligence community, they have six ways from Sunday at getting back at you,” Senator Church found that out the hard way. Trump is now contemplating another house cleaning and the establishment will fight this and there is a good possibility that Trump could suffer the same fate that Church did. Trump is not just going after the intel community, he is after all agencies. He has two things that Church didn't have. First he is putting in all new people who think like he does and second he is using outsiders Elon and Vivek to audit the books. Get ready for some fireworks.
