Bases
As the age of globalization comes to an end the questions of whether the US should continue to be the worlds policeman come into focus. Currently there are at least 750 US military bases in 80 countries with 228,000 troops. The exact number of bases is not known since some bases are secret. This at a cost of $55 billion per year. A few examples are 120 bases in Japan with 53,973 troops, 119 bases in Germany with 35,781 and South Korea with 73 bases and 25,372 troops. On the civilian side the US is the major financial contributor to the UN, the IMF, the World Bank, NATO, the WTO and the WHO. In addition the US has a negative trade balance with all trading partners. In the wings various world organizations are clamoring for Western countries to contribute billions to developing countries in retribution payments for the climate problems caused by the industrial revolution. This is a spin off on reparations. Many of the same people who feel more government is the answer to US problems at home are pushing the US to solve the climate problems of the rest of the world. The US hasn't done all of these things over the years because of altruistic reasons but because of self interest. At this time in history many Americans believe the US should take more care of the people at home including deporting illegal criminal migrants.
