Woke

Some pundits are saying that the election represents the beginning of the end of Woke. To them Woke means identity politics, cancel culture, virtue signaling, trans men in women's sports, drag queens in schools, gender changes on minors and more than two sexes. To old time liberals these things never existed but to the modern day progressive they are real. Many liberals have felt all along that these cultural changes were side line issues that only the far left believed in but they didn't want to speak up. With the election they got permission to speak and many are now speaking out but many institutions are not ready to give up. Universities, Hollywood and a number of big corporations particularly in Silicon Valley are holding on and will only change when they discover a way out. The modern version of Woke had its origins in academia and was brought to the public's attention by the media. Young White women who had been indoctrinate through school especially at the university level were particularly enthralled with the Woke ideas. This is where phrases like White guilt and virtue signaling became part of the vernacular. The move away from Woke started recently within corporations who discovered the hard way that DEI could interfere with the bottom line and ESG was not helpful. Hollywood has also realized that changing movies that fit some cultural norm is not working.
