Voter ID

There is a controversy regarding voter ID in which some people object to asking voters to provide proof of their identity. Most would use a driver’s license or a state provided ID card. Opponents to this, say it that many poor people do not drive and for others it is too difficult to get a state card. States require proof of identity for people to qualify for public assistance. I think these poor people should be made aware of the many programs that the states provide and help them get a state ID so they can get some help with their finances. There is no way to determine how many people are missing out on public benefits because they lack the proper ID but my guess is that it is not many. I say this because I have seen studies of people who live on the street and how well they are informed about the various government programs especially supplemental social security which requires a lot of know how to collect.
