Torture
John Brennan was confirmed by the senate with a 63 to 37 vote to head the C|IA. He was deeply involved in the establishment of black sites overseas where enhanced interrogation techniques were used. When it came time for his appointment as head of CIA he hedged his bets but was confirmed.
During his February 2013 confirmation hearings to be CIA director, John Brennan told senators he had come to doubt his previously held view — formed as a top agency official — that brutal CIA interrogation techniques had yielded valuable intelligence.
Here was his previous view:
“Our reviews indicate that the detention and interrogation program produced useful intelligence that helped the United States thwart attack plans, capture terrorists and save lives.”
He didn't change his mind on the techniques but rather on his opinion of the results.
