SMR

There are currently three small modular nuclear reactors now in service, one in China, one in Russia and one in India. In addition three more are under construction and 65 are in the planning stage. The need for new electric power is far exceeding the projected increase in power. One of the big users of power is data centers from companies like Microsoft, Amazon and Google. Microsoft recently contracted to start up the Three Mile Island nuclear power plant by purchasing the next 20 years of power at 900 megawatts per year just to power their future data centers. Amazon has contracted to build 4 small reactors for a total of 400 megawatts and Google has contracted to build 6 small reactors to provide 500 megawatts for their new data centers. It takes 10 times as much energy to do a Chat GPT search as it does to do one Google search. Data centers need continuous power which wind and solar cannot provide. These tech companies realize that the grid cannot supply their power needs.
