Dangerous trip

The distance from Guatemala to the USA is 1,200 to 2,900 miles depending on whether you arrive in Texas or California. In either case the journey is across mostly deserted desert and very dangerous. This is from the Huffinton Post a mostly liberal site. As the number of Central American women and girls crossing into the U.S. continues to spike, so is the staggering amount of sexual violence waged against these migrants who are in search of a better life. According to a stunning Fusion investigation, 80 percent of women and girls crossing into the U.S. by way of Mexico are raped during their journey. That’s up from a previous estimate of 60 percent, according to an Amnesty International report. If this is true then of the 35,000 unaccompanied young women who will show up at the border this that 28,000 of them will have been raped along the way. If the US has a catch and release program this will encourage more people from Central America to make this journey.
