US shelters received a record 122,000 unaccompanied children in 2021. According to the government these children are sent to sponsors in various parts of the country. The sponsor must agree to ensure the child's presence at all future immigration proceedings. The number that show up is not available since this is kept secret by the court but the average wait for a court date is 1,136 days. There is no information on the Internet to prove that these sponsors have been veted and this leads to a lot of guess work as to just what kind of people these sponsors are. Trafficing children is a world wide problem. Of the 600,000-800,000 people trafficked across international borders each year, 70 percent are female and 50 percent are children. The majority of these victims are forced into the commercial sex trade. (Ibid.) Each year, an estimated 14,500 to 17,500 foreign nationals are trafficked into the United States.
