Math

Educators are now looking into something called social and emotional learning through math. They say that strong students can persevere even when they get the wrong answer. That is a skill they consider to be under the social and emotional learning umbrella. This explanation is not exactly clear but it sounds like another case of experimenting with new learning techniques using children as test kids. Math is the language of science and the beauty of it is that it is devoid of feelings. This was jokingly demonstrated when the teacher asks Johnny how much is two plus two and he says five. The teacher responds by saying that is almost right. It's not almost right, It's wrong. If that hurts Johnny's self esteem then so be it. While most things human are subject to bias and subjectivity, math is not. A chemist can combine a known quantity of A with a known quantity of B and under standard conditions will get a known quantity of C. This experiment can be repeated many times by many different chemist and they will always get the same result. The mood of the chemist has no bearing on the results. There is room for feelings in most areas of study but math is not one of them.
