Teacher safety

The video of a Florida high school student attacking a Para in the school has gotten a lot of attention but most people are not aware of how often this sort of thing happens. A survey of St Paul schools shows ten percent of teachers have been assaulted by students. Student violence against teachers has become the norm and that is not okay. Para's are classroom helpers who are not licensed teachers. They are very valuable assistants and work closely with students who need extra help. Often times they work with one student and move from class to class with that student. The student who attacked the Florida teacher had on three previous occasions attacked someone. He is just shy of age 18 and will be charged as an adult which means prison time. Keeping these students in school until age 18 lowers the chances of them ending up in prison. That is the reason that suspensions are limited and expulsion almost non existent.
