Courts
Under current law a single federal judge can stop the president. The Supreme Court is reviewing this.
Federal Court System: The U.S. judicial system includes district courts (trial courts), where a single federal judge often hears cases. These judges have the power to:
Issue injunctions (orders to stop an action),
Declare actions unconstitutional, and
Temporarily block executive orders or regulations while a case is being reviewed.
There have been many recent examples of this and the Supreme Court stepped in to reverse the lower courts. Since 2007 the court has reversed decisions 71.3% of the time. Even though this seems inefficient the court will likely keep the system as it is.
