Islam today

Revelation over reason is a key phrase that explains the situation that Islam is facing today. From about 700 AD to 1500 AD Islamic scientist flourished and birthed new ideas about medicine, mathematics and other sciences but that ended when religion took over. Because of many changes including the use of politics, the religious people gained power over the leadership and Islam closed its doors to the outside world and concentrated on the Koran and lived their lives according to the strict interpretation of this holy book. The west faced a similar situation with the bible but chose a path that aligns science with religion allowing both a degree of independence from one another. This is best illustrated by the separation clause in the US constitution. There remains some fundamental arguments regarding literal interpretation of the bible but these have not placed any constraints on scientific advancements. Hopefully the Bible doesn't forbid scientific investigation as the Roman Church feared during the aptly named dark ages. Science has made some serious blunders over the years but that should not limit future investigations.
