Carney
Canada is undergoing withdrawals from Trump’s 51st state proposals. In the run up to the March 2025 election the conservative candidate was on course to win but when Trump made his remarks the situation changed almost overnight. The liberal candidate Mark Carney jumped into the lead and won. He is a strong proponent of replacing fossil fuels with wind and solar even though Canada’s climate is not conducive to either. Much of Canada’s oil wealth comes from the Western Provinces, primarily Alberta. For years Alberta has been a net GDP producer and much of their money was sent to Quebec a province that is a net taker. When the new PM was elected, he assumed the people wanted more green energy so he placed additional restrictions on Alberta. The people there did not like this and are threatening to secede and this is causing turmoil throughout the government. Carney believes that in the long run wind and solar will replace fossil fuels. Carney remains popular since 65% of the population lives in Ontario and Quebec.
