H1-B visas are special visas sponsored by tech companies to bring in STEM workers to help fill the shortage of techies needed by industry. The program has been misused by some companies who use the new immigrants not to add to their staff but to use instead of US citizens in order to get by with lower salaries. Recent changes introduced a mandatory $100,000 per visa to curb abuses. Tech companies are objecting as is India where 70% of the visas are issued. This is another example of putting American first.
