Unions

The income gap in the US has been growing since the early 80’s. It started slow but has accelerated in recent years and is a major problem in the country. One of the more important reasons is, that in business a small group of people determine the economic security of the employees. This is the standard business model. Many people suggest that government would be more efficient, if it acted more like business but some are now realizing that business would be more effective, if it acted more like government. In government people elect the leaders and if they don’t produce the desired results they are not reelected. In other words, people have a vote in determining what happens. One way, that business can and does operate in this way, is through unions. As unions gain a voice in the decision-making process, they bring power to the workers. Union wages and benefits are increased. The current plans to reindustrialize the country, presents the ideal opportunity for unions to grow in numbers and influence. Unions can reverse the 50-year trend and begin to slow the growth in the income gap. The push by nationalist to end globalization has encouraged some unions to join in the reindustrialization movement. Government officials who want to bring back manufacturing jobs should encourage the unions. The establishment will oppose this but that is part of the current trend of turning away from the status quo complex, that now controls the country. This will be opposed by all the powers that have been running things. It will be a David/Goliath battle and unions can be the stones.
