Trump is considering sending in federal troops to help Chicago deal with murders. For 13 consecutive years, Chicago has had the most murders of any U.S. city. In recent years in Chicago, the vast majority of homicide victims have been Black, accounting for approximately 79% of victimizations in 2020, with Latinx individuals making up another 15%. Murders in Chicago are predominantly intra-racial, meaning victims and offenders are often of the same race. Specifically, about 98% of Black victims are killed by Black offenders The Illinois governor and the Chicago mayor both object to federal troops coming into the city to help with the crime. Crime in Chicago is an example of racism. They contend they can deal with the problem without outside help.
