Clinton impeachment

Many people believe that telling a lie is not a crime and for the most part that is true. These same people understand that lying under oath is a crime but they often do not realize that lying to the government is a crime. This is what got President Clinton in trouble. In a deposition in the Paula Jones case he said he never had sexual relations with Monica Luwinski. Normally this type of lying in a civil case is not prosecuted but this was not to be with Clinton. Special prosecutor Ken Starr went ahead and charged Clinton with perjury and the rest is history. Later during the impeachment hearing Starr told Clinton about the blue dress before he questioned him publicly and this kept Clinton from further incriminating himself. Such consideration would not happen in today's environment.
