College

Harvard University is in the news because they are private and receive federal funding. They have a large endowment and most of the earnings on their investments are tax free because they are considered nonpolitical. This is somewhat disconcerting since polls show that 80% of the professors are liberal or very liberal. The other 20% are mostly in science, engineering and business meaning that all most all teachers in polysci are liberals. Hillsdale College is a private school that takes no federal funds and is very conservative. The average cost at Hillsdale is $33,189 while the average cost at Harvard is $51,147. Stanford University, another private school, has an endowment of $38 billion and gets $2 billion per year from the federal government. Stanford has only 22% White students and the average cost is $80,000 mostly paid by scholarships. Nearly half the students pay only $14,000 per year. At Stanford, unlike most Ivy League schools, the majority of students major in STEM.
