The term independent media is used to describe what is not main stream and can best be experienced on podcast. The hope was that this diversity of views would bring more clarity to news. Instead, what has happened is that certain podcasters, who have achieved success as judged by the number of paid watchers, have chosen guest who espouse their view points and now represent the same system as the main stream press. The average consumer of news must now choose a variety of podcast to come up with a wider view of issues. Many of these podcasters are consider experts because of their formal education or perhaps they wrote a book but the ordinary person who uses common sense can often times, have a clearer understanding of issues. Regardless of the news source the average Joe must rely on his own life experience to search for the truth.
