Autos
It is difficult to get objective news about the upcoming 25% tariff on imported autos and auto parts. While manufactures say they will not attempt to build more cars in the US to escape the tax, the unions are for the tax.
"U.S. Automakers are committed to President Trump’s vision of increasing automotive production and jobs in the U.S. and will continue to work with the Administration on durable policies that help Americans."
Last year the US imported half of all cars sold. There will be pressure on US companies to produce more here in the states, if they can reduce the cost by 25%. A car that sells for $50,000 built here will have a price tag of $62,500. It will take time to build new manufacturing facilities but existing plants can quickly increase production.
While some U.S. auto plants do operate with three shifts for 24-hour production, according to Dallas News, not all plants run three shifts, and it depends on factors like production demand and the specific type of vehicle being manufactured.
