Recent history has shown that many countries that are run by strong, dictatorial leaders tend to fall apart if the leader is removed. Countries in the Middle East that for centuries have differed in culture remain calm under the dictator but resort to infighting when the leader is deposed. Strange as it may seem something similar is happening to Europe. Ever since the end of WW 2 the United States has been the protector of Europe by way of NATO but now that protection is in jeopardy. The Trump approach is to demand that Europe take on responsibility for their own defense and allow the US to develop a new world economy. The danger is that the various European countries may be unable to bind together much like the tribes in the Middle East and resort to fighting with each other. Some say that the 75 years of peace in Europe was only possible because US maintained the common defense of the continent.
