Houthis

The Houthis in Yemen are a terrorist group that have shut down the sea traffic through the Suez Canal and this has had profound effects on trade with China. Europe gets 21% of its imports from China while the US gets 16%. The alternate trip around the southern tip of Africa takes 7-10 days longer and cost $200,000 per ship. In 2023, a record 26,434 vessels passed through the Suez Canal, marking a new high in maritime traffic. This translates to an average of around 72 ships per day. The US is once again called upon to stop the Houthis and allow all ships access to the Canal which will in turn lower cost to the Europeans.
