Schools
The country is in the middle of a crisis in public schools. Gallup polls show that confidence in public schools is at all-time low of 26%. This requires some drastic changes and can start by concentrating on teachers and the 3 R’s. First step is to go back to the basics where children learned how to read and write. 50% of high school grads are reading at an eighth-grade level. To do this every class should have the same approach. Students will read for twenty minutes and then spend the rest of the class writing down what they read. They follow this procedure in all classes including science, social studies, civics, personal finance, health and business. Teachers are put at the forefront and all non-teaching staff is reduced to a minimum. Teachers pay increases are financed by eliminating most other staff. Class sizes are lowered. Classes like chemistry and algebra 2 are elective like physics and calculus and these classes are for people who plan to go to college. The rest of the students are trained to go to work right out of high school. There will be many jobs in factories as the country doubles its industrial base. People will learn on the job to run production lines using automatic panel boards augmented by AI. Other activities not involved with the 3 R’s will be extracurricular and not available during regular school hours. This includes things like sports, art, music and group clubs.
