Muslim

Christians throughout parts of Africa and the Middle East are being attacked by Muslims but there is little in the news about these incidences. One of the reasons given for not reporting is fear. In 2006 Pope Benedict delivered a lecture at the University of Regensburg in which he hinted that Islam is flawed by fanaticism. This caused an uproar of violence by various Muslim groups around the world. There are many instances where criticizing Islam has resulted in a violent response and thus people tend not to express their views if they are anti Islam. One well known case involved a cartoon showing Muhammad and that resulted in an attack by Muslims where 12 people were murdered and 11 injured. Some thirty years ago, author Salman Rushdie, wrote an uncomplimentary book about Islam and he has lived under threat of death ever since. This type of behavior is a threat to free speech. In today’s vernacular such things are called cancel culture.
