Government
The success of conservative pod casts is an extension of the success they have in talk radio. The problem comes from the length of time involved. On a TV interview there is not enough time to delve deeply into the issue and thus no difficulty in explaining away any discrepancies or contradictions. The democrats deep down feel that the average man needs government to take care of him, to protect him from unscrupulous people and there is some truth to this, since in today’s world, the buyer is often far less knowledgeable about the product than is the seller. Most consumers without realizing this, benefit from government oversight but that is where it ends. The democrats cannot afford to have the consumer think that they cannot take care of themselves and this is the rub. It is difficult, if not impossible, to talk for an hour or more without revealing this underlying belief, that people need government to care for them. When people suspect this, they feel like they are being talked down to or they are being patronized. This then leads to the idea that democrats are the educated elite who know what is best.
Most of these democrats are sincere in their desire to lift up the poor to have lives of dignity and inclusion but they also feel that their opinions are more valuable than some clerk at the checkout. They also believe that they should have a higher standard of living than the person who delivers packages to their home.
These two drives conflict since you can’t be an egalitarian social climber.
