Common sense

The democratic party is realigning as is normally the case after an election loss. The progressives are believers in identity politics and pull the party to the left. Identity politics generally refers to people evaluating issues through the lens of their association with a specific group. This in turn means that approaches to issues, politicians and political parties revolve around how those things affect the relevant group or groups. This can include the conviction that one's group is being oppressed or discriminated against either by larger groups or by society as a whole. Identity politics can also create backlashes among those who disagree with what it means for the rest of society. The more center group believes that joining forces and not separating by groups will bring the party together. While defending small groups is admirable it is not conducive to winning elections. Even compassion towards large groups without proper controls can be destructive, case in point, the border. While helping people who were only trying to escape danger, new dangers arose. Many thousands of women and girls were molested, many thousands of young people died from fentanyl poisoning, many thousands of children disappeared into the arms of traffickers, many thousands of convicted criminals were released into society, and the cartels made billions. Less than one half of one percent of the population identify as transwomen but allowing them into women’s sports threatens the progress that women have made in sports. Most people are uncomfortable with transwomen in women’s locker and bathrooms. Most people are uncomfortable with drag queens dancing in schools. Most people do not want schools to keep secrets from parents. Then there are even less important issues things like which pronoun to use, paper straws and plastic bags. It is these minor cultural issues that have allowed the republicans to the claim that they are the party of common sense.
