In 2024 the European Union with a population of 450 million spent $350 billion on defense and the US with a population of 330 million spent $850 billion on defense. This means the cost per person for national defense in Europe is $777 and the cost for each American is $2,570. If Europe took care of their own defense and the US spent like Europe this would leave America with $591 billion to spend on social programs perhaps national healthcare.
