Germany

Early in her career Angela Merkel went all in on climate change, stopped fracking and started phasing out nuclear and Germany now has 45% of its power coming from renewables. Coal plants are being closed leaving Germany dependent on natural gas to back up its wind and solar. Germany gets its natural gas from Russia and Russia is manipulating market supply to keep the price up. The November gas price at the Dutch TTF hub, a European benchmark , hit an all-time high of 97.73 euros per megawatt hour (MWh) earlier on Friday, up around 400% this year, before easing slightly. The quick rise in natural gas prices impacts Germany, but the economy ministry at this point does not aim to use government action to protect consumers The United States seems to be headed toward a similar fate.
