Presidents
Events have a way of overtaking Presidential candidates. Woodrow Wilson promised in November of 1916 to "keep us out of war". He was inaugurated in January of 1917 and in April of 1917 the US entered WW 1. FDR in October of 1940 said, "your boys are not going to be sent into any foreign wars" and he was inaugurated in January of 1941 and in December of 1941 the US entered WW 2. Presidents all agree that sending troops to fight is the most difficult of all decisions but promises did not stop these two.
