Indium

All of the schools in this area have replaced their old smart boards with new ones. The old boards used overhead projectors to show video on the screen. The new boards have touch screens much like lap tops. Indium is a rare earth metal that is used to make touch screens work. This is one more example of how mining for rare earths is done to make things more convenient. No thought is given to the environmental damage caused by this mining.
