Race

The case of Harvard President Gay has helped answer a question that has long evaded those who study race in America. It has been postulated that Black students don't want to get good grades because it makes them seem like Whites. There was a Black professor at Harvard Roland Fryer who did research to determine if this is true. His studies showed that Black students under perform because of social pressure from peers who call them White. Those who admire Fryer saw this as speaking truth to power. In 2019 Fryer was accused of "unwelcome sexual conduct toward several individuals" and his boss at the time Professor Gay demoted him. Two years later he was reinstated. Why a person who was accused of sexual misconduct would be put back on the job is a mystery. The question then arises was he disciplined for sexual misconduct or for what his research revealed. If it is the latter that opens the question as to whether it was a matter of sexual language or exposing unwelcomed ideas about race.
