0ne of the biggest problems facing the country today is the gap in test scores. There are questions involving the legitimacy of the department of education. For many the K 12 education system is the modern-day equivalent of slavery. Black students are too far behind in learning, the have the highest drop out rate, the highest suspension rate and this drags them down for the rest of their lives. They all too often they end up in prison, they get the lower paying jobs, they have the highest single mom rates and lower life expectancies. Over the past 20 years the department has come up with No Child Left Behind in 2001, Common Core in 2010 and Every Student Succeeds in 2015 and none of these have helped. Ask any teacher what they think of these plans. The Department of Education was founded in 1980 and it has not helped. Maybe it is time for a change.
