Japan
Japan is one of a number of countries facing a demographic problem. They have too many elderly and too few young people. It is the group between ages 18 and 50 that are the workers and consumers and Japan is short on both. In order to solve the problem Japan has made the decision to produce and sell products in the US and send the profits home to care for their retirees. In 2023 Japan built 3.7 million cars in the US. Japanese-brand automakers have been a leader in US manufacturing employment growth, with direct employment growing by more than 32% since 2012. In 2021, Japanese companies employed 533,100 people in the United States, which was the highest number ever recorded. This was an 84.2% increase from 2010. Other countries will be following this path since they want access to the big US market and this way, they can avoid tariffs. This is in addition to the reshoring of American jobs and all categories.
