There is a lot of speculation regarding tariffs. One way to understand the effect is to look to the past. Lynden Johnson put a 25% tariff on all pickup trucks. What has been the effect? 60% of all Toyota pickups are made in the USA. This allows them to escape the tariff. Sales of pickups in the US reached 3 million and only 7,000 were imported. It appears that tariffs among other factors had an effect on imports.
