One of the more interesting parts of the Trump revolution that is not getting enough attention, is his proposal to cut defense spending. Putin recently said that Trump’s idea of both countries cutting defense by 50% is doable. They could then bring China into the group and all three countries could use that money to build goods instead of weapons. As the US begins its ten-year journey to double the industrial base, there is a need for skilled labor and the defense department is loaded with engineers and such. The country could be manufacturing appliances, electronics and other consumer items instead of bullets and bombs. There would be funds for additional social programs and a start on lowering the debt. Putin says he would welcome US capital to build up his industry. Russia has large amounts of undeveloped hydropower and lots of aluminum ore. They also have more rare earths than Ukraine. American engineers and American capital could revitalize Russia and the US could get badly needed materials from Russia. Putin suggested that the two countries share in the development and benefits from helping Russia, to move from a war industry to a consumer goods industry.
