One of the many changes brought about by the expansion of social media, is that the masses are getting a good look at how the elites have been running things. In Trump’s first term he aggravated the legacy press by announcing his every thought on Twitter. This left them with little to do as far as getting viewers and the number of newspapers declined as clicks on TV declined. This term Trump is out everyday talking about what he is thinking and doing and the media has nothing to do except repeat what has already been spoken. Broadcast TV viewership has been on a steady decline for the past 20 years and Trump is accelerating this decline. There are nearly 6,000 newspapers that in the US and two shut down every week. Projections show that as of the end of last year the US has lost one-third of the newspapers it had 20 years ago. While the legacy press gave up on its responsibility to hold the government responsible, the new press has taken over and it has made it difficult for the government to hide.
