USAID
A new kid has appeared on the block and it is called United States Agency for International Development (USAID) or US aid for short. In 2023, Washington disbursed $72 billion in foreign aid across nearly 180 countries. With its 10,000 employee and 65 years of handing out benefits to people around the world, it is time for a serious review of what is happening within the organization. This is in line with the other worldwide programs like the UN and WHO where the US is footing the bulk of the cost. The US provides 40% of all the money the world spends on humanitarian aid thru the USAID program. Much of this money goes directly to other governments and last year that was $60 million. Based on other experiences in handing out money to foreign government there is the possibility of misuse. Non-Governmental Agencies (NGO’s) received $5.7 billion. These are groups like Catholic Charities and World Vision. Trump has asked for a pause in the USAID to investigate how this money is handled. This would be in line with the America First approach to government.
